Valerie C. Doran is a Hong Kong-based curator, writer and translator specializing in the field of contemporary Asian art with a special interest in cultural cross-currents and comparative art theory. In addition to ‘Earthly Evocations’, her recent curatorial projects include STIGMATICS, a cross-disciplinary project with visual artist Angela Su, musician Ah-Kok Wong and cultural historian Sander L. Gilman (Hong Kong, March 2012); the multiple-media installation ‘HOPE & GLORY’ by Simon Birch (Hong Kong 2010; Beijing 2011), named as a notable exhibition internationally by Art Forum magazine; and the acclaimed exhibition ‘Looking for Antonio Mak’ at the Hong Kong Museum of Art (2008-09), selected by Art Forum China as one of the ten best shows internationally and named by Time Out Hong Kong as the most outstanding exhibition of 2008. Valerie publishes frequently on Asian and international contemporary art and is one of the most active translators in the field of Chinese contemporary art criticism. Valerie is an Academic Advisor to the Asia Art Archive and a member of the Gallery Advisory Board of the Asia Society Hong Kong. In November 2009 she was awarded the Certificate of Commendation from the Hong Kong Home Affairs Bureau for contributions to arts and cultural activities in Hong Kong.
